FENRISIAN KAERLS AUXILIARY
AUXILIARY HETHA
75TH INFANTRY TERCIO, UNLISTED SOLAR AUXILIA COHORT, 'FENRISIAN KAERLS' - BONDED TO THE VITH LEGION
The Space Wolves were a Legion around which both dark rumour and fantastical legend circled, encouraged and dismissed by the Legionaries of the VIth Legion in equal measure. Such fantasies also extended to their 'Fenrisian Kaerls' Legiones Auxilia, no doubt spurred on by several notably brutal training and initiation practices which became known to the wider Imperium, including vicious bloodsports conducted amidst the freezing wilds of Fenris. While such practices were not unknown among the Space Marine Legions, their use among a body notionally of the Imperialis Auxilia only fed the suspicion surrounding the Fenrisians and the other cultures which provided 'Kaerl' cohorts, themselves selected by some inscrutable criteria, ranging from void-pirate clans to the bitter survivors of Imperial Compliance who had only surrendered after years of bloody fighting.

Fenrisian Kaerls
Upon the cruel world of Fenris, none can survive without a warrior's skill, and while the greatest among the planet's population would ascend to join the VIth Legion, those who fell short of the Space Wolves' gruelling trials or simply proved incompatible with the Legion's gene-seed provided an ample stable of recruits for the Legion's Auxilia. These were the Fenrisian Kaerls, fearsome soldiers whose shared warrior-culture made them perfectly matched to their Legionary counterparts. While Fenris hellish climate and geology ensured the world's human populace was never sizeable - limiting the Fenrisian Kaerls to only a handful of cohorts at their apex - the Kaerls were valued much more highly by their patron Legion than many Legiones Auxilia, and so were spared some of the more perilous duties than their counterparts bonded to certain other Legions.

The Fenrisian Kaerls Legiones Auxilia Designation is also intended to represent various other Solar Auxilia cohorts bonded to the VIth Legion, such as the 'Last Vigil'.

Hunter's Strike
The Auxiliaries of the Fenrisian Kaerls cohorts fought vigilantly at the Space Wolves' flanks, ever watchful for feint or ambush, such that no hidden redoubt or unorthodox concealment was proof against their scrutiny or the fearsome counter-attack which inevitably followed

Fenrisian Kaerls
The Fenrisian Kaerls share a home world with their patron Legion, the Space Wolves, but the pattern is also used by cohorts inducted from other VI Legion fief worlds, including those from Lucan. Veteran Kaerls are elevated to the ‘Aettguard’ and afforded the honour of guarding the Fang, the fortress of the Legion. Kaerls wear undersuits of dun brown and armour panels of blue-grey.

Armour: Mechanicus Grey
Cloth: Karak Stone
Trim: Runelord Brass
Gun Casing: Abaddon Black

For weapons the wield heavy Skjoldtar autoguns, known to be more powerful than the autoguns and lasguns of the Imperial Guard.[Battle of the Fang (Novel)]

WH40k Space Wolves' fleet, Lucan, Kaerls

https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Space_Wolves

Fleet

The Space Wolves maintain an abnormally large fleet for Space Marine standards, numbering over a hundred vessels. The fleet was noted pre-Siege of the Fenris System to consist of:

  • 8 Battle Barges.
  • 30+ Strike Cruisers.
  • 20+ Hunter Class Destroyer Squadrons.
  • 20+ Gladius and Nova Class Frigate Squadrons.
  • 2 Ramilies Class Star Forts (Goremenjarl and Mjalnar).

  • Fighters & Gunships

Heresy Era

  • Hrafnkel — Gloriana Class Battleship, flagship of Leman Russ.
  • Nidhoggur — Battleship, Flagship of Great Company Tra and core capital ship of the Legion.

Post-Heresy

  • Allfather's Honour — Battle Barge and current flagship of the Chapter.

Lucan is an Imperial Research Station.

History
During the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy, it served as one of the Space Wolves' Fief Worlds. As part of the Legion's fiefdom, Lucan provided the Space Wolves with Solar Auxilia Regiments that were patterned off of the Fenrisian Kaerls.

Trivia
When the Space Wolves were introduced in White Dwarf Issue 93 (1987), their Fortress-Monastery is said to be sited on Lucan, rather than Fenris. Lucan's atmosphere is described as airless and its Fortress-Monastery as silent, without mirth.

The Fenrisian Kaerls were Solar Auxilia Regiments, that were raised from the Space Wolves' Homeworld, Fenris, during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.

History

Members of the Fenrisian Kaerls were raised from those Fenrisians who failed trials to join the Space Wolves Legion or proved to be incompatible with their Gene-Seed. Despite this, they were still considered fearsome soldiers and shared the same warrior-culture as the Space Wolves. As Fenris was never a populous world, the Fenrisian Kaerls never grew beyond a handful of cohorts. However they were valued more highly by their parent Legion than many other similar units utilized by the rest of the Legiones Astartes.

Their armour scheme was also used by Solar Auxilia Regiments raised from the Space Wolves' Fief Worlds. Regardless of their Homeworlds, the Kaerls' vehicles were marked with decorative motifs that were drawn from Fenris' culture and its veterans were inducted into the Aettguard. These Solar Auxillia were given the honour of protecting The Fang, which served as the Space Wolves' Fortress Monastery.

https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Kaerls

The Kaerls are the warrior serfs of the Space Wolves and Planetary Defense Force of the homeworld of Fenris. They are under the direct command of Space Wolves and are known to be fierce, effective fighters.

Kaerls wear grey uniforms (including a tunic), and are armoured in Carapace armour. They are also equipped with night-vision visors. When aboard void ships, they are equipped with blast-armour with translucent face masks.

For weapons the wield heavy Skjoldtar autoguns, known to be more powerful than the autoguns and lasguns of the Imperial Guard.

The most elite of the Kaerls join the Aettguard, which guard The Fang.

The Kaerls are organised into units known as "rivens" , each lead by an officer kaerl known as a "rivenmaster". Rivens are various sizes, with rivens often having hundreds of kaerls. These rivens are further broken up into squads of six kaerls, each lead by a "huskaerl"
