Elden Ring - Northerner

13.4.2025

https://eldenring.fandom.com/wiki/Northerner

“A face found among the hardy people of the unforgiving north. Some say they're descended from giants.— Character Creation”

The Northerners are an unseen faction in Elden Ring.

Overview

The rugged Northerners hail from the snowy Mountaintops of the Giants in the northern Lands Between. They are rumored to be descendants of the Fire Giants, who ruled the Flame Peak long ago.

Notes

  • They are likely related to:
    • Kaiden Sellswords from Kaiden
      • Kaiden Armor set "Armor worn by Kaiden sellswords. Made with the pelt of a snow-wolf, which protects against the cold.
These hulking, fearless mercenaries, said to hail from the moutaintops of the wintry north, are adept at fighting on horseback. Kaiden is the name of their home settlement."
      • Dismantler "This curved greatsword wielded by the brawny sellswords of Kaiden combines the blades of a scimitar with the heft of a hatchet.
A difficult to handle weapon that demands much of the wielder's strength and dexterity, but with practice and ability, it can serve as a versatile weapon even on horseback."
    • Trolls
    • Fire Monks who guard the Giants' Flame.
    • Highlanders
      • "Highland warriors are known to be hunters of bears; to them, there is no act more glorious than the subjugation of a savage beast.— Highland Attire"
  • The Tarnished can also have the features of a Northerner as per the character creation screen.
Character Creation: "A face found among the hardy people of the unforgiving north. Some say they're descended from giants."

homebrew wh40k - renegades of Necoho

Necoho don't give mutations like horns but something similar to Pariah Gene

Mutations and "Blessings"
Since Necoho hates the idea of divine gifts, his "blessings" would be ironic, subtle, or even self-defeating. His Renegade Astartes might experience:
  • No Overt Mutations
    • Unlike followers of other Chaos Gods, they do not sprout horns, extra eyes, or tentacles—because Necoho rejects the idea of physical corruption as a sign of favor.
  • Instead, their mutations are internal or psychological:
    • Enhanced skepticism (immunity to psychic powers that rely on faith or belief).
    • Resistance to mind control (because they refuse to be dominated by any will, even a god’s).
    • Unnatural adaptability (their bodies resist stasis or predictability, making them harder to target or heal).
  • The Mark of Necoho: The Doubter’s Aura
    • Their presence sows uncertainty in the minds of their enemies.
    • Enemy psykers struggle to read their thoughts (because their minds are a void of doubt).
    • Faith-based abilities (e.g., Imperial miracles, Chaos boons) fail or backfire in their presence.
  • Cursed "Gifts"
    • The Gift of Irony: Their luck is unpredictable—sometimes they dodge impossible shots, other times they trip at the worst moment, as if Necoho is laughing at the absurdity of their existence.
    • The Burden of Proof: They cannot lie to themselves. If they start to believe too strongly in anything (even their own defiance), they suffer mental backlash (e.g., headaches, hallucinations, or temporary paralysis).
Necoho’s "Rewards" (or Lack Thereof)
Necoho does not reward his followers in the traditional sense—because to do so would imply favoritism, which he despises. Instead, his "gifts" are subtle, ironic, or even cruel:
  • The Gift of Clarity
    • His followers see through lies and illusions more easily than others.
    • They cannot be fooled by false gods or psychic tricks that rely on belief.
  • The Curse of Isolation
    • They find it hard to trust anyone, even their battle-brothers.
    • They struggle to form lasting bonds, because faith in others is a form of dogma.
  • The Blessing of Unpredictability
    • Their luck is erratic—sometimes they survive impossible odds, other times they suffer freak accidents.
    • Necoho does not protect them—he laughs at their struggles, because suffering is proof that no god truly cares.
  • The Ultimate Test: The Crisis of Faith
    • If a follower starts to believe in Necoho too strongly, they might suffer a mental breakdown—forced to confront the paradox of worshipping a god who hates worship.
    • Some go mad and turn on their own warband.
    • Others abandon all gods entirely, becoming true nihilists.
