Among the natives of Fenris, the blacksmiths of each tribe worship the Iron Gods. They are said to live on volcanic islands in the "Boiling Sea". Young Fenris blacksmiths may go on a pilgrimage. There they meet the living gods, the "Iron Priests". If the pilgrim passes the "Trial of the Iron Gauntlet", he is accepted as an apprentice into the Space Wolves, but if he fails, he becomes a "Thrall" (Servitor), a lower rank than the Cyberwolves.
He then travels to Mars to learn the ways of the machine under the tutelage of the arcane and closed Adeptus Mechanicus. After fully embracing the mysteries of the Omnissiah, he is allowed to return to Fenris.
After the new Iron Priest returns to Fenris, he undergoes a final test: he must offer his right arm to the "Spirit of the Iron Wolf". This completes his initiation into the Iron Priesthood.
