karelianism

Karelianism was finnish art movement in Golden Age of Finnish art (late 19th-century) where finnish artists journed to Karelia to get inspiration from "purer-finns". Even thought karelians were own language and cultural group, which later became finnizated by Greater Finland -idealists like Academic Karelia Society. AKS claimed that karelian language was finnish dialect and culture was continuation from finns' ancient culture,,
1800s finnish artists started to make Kalevala-culture (named after national epic) as counterpart for european Hómēros-culture. Kalevala's cultural landscape was found in Karelia. (Elias Lönnrot titled first Kalevala as "Kalewala or karelian runes from Finland's ancient people,")
